Master of Public Management: A Public Administration Program offered by East Tennessee State University's College of Business

Master of Public Administration ( M.P.A.) Degree Program.

The Master of Public Management Administration ( MPA ) is a 36 credit hour (12 course) program of study for the preparation of public administrators. The MPA program at East Tennessee State University is different than most Master of Public Administration programs because it focuses on local government administration and problems rather than national issues. Official estimates suggest that in 1995, over 55 percent of civilian government jobs were in local government, about 28 percent were in state government, and about 16.5 percent were in the federal government. The Master of Public Administration is designed to prepare you for today's job market, providing both technical skills which will qualify students for entry level jobs in the public sector, and the theoretical understanding which will enable you to master greater levels of responsibilities as the opportunities arise. The 12 course program consists of a 7 course core, providing the skills every public manager will want to know, a 4 course concentration, to provide a profession which will make you marketable in the job market, and an internship which will give you on-the-job training and experience.

Not-for-Profit Administration.
Planning and Economic Development
Public Financial Management.

An undergraduate average of 3.0 is desired for admission to the Master of City Management program. A satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination ( GRE ) is also required. Two letters of recommendation, a completed application form, a personal vita form, and essay are additional requirements. Applicants must submit transcripts of all undergraduate work for their applications to be reviewed.

Financial Aid and Housing.

The College of Business and the school of Graduate Studies have a limited number of available graduate assistantships. There is on-campus housing for married and unmarried students on a space -available basis.
